My Journey with Kidney Disease: From Childhood Dialysis to Kidney Transplant
Some kidney journeys begin much earlier than we can remember. Mine began on the very day I was born, when I was diagnosed with Hemolytic Uremic Syndrome (HUS). From starting dialysis as a young child to receiving a kidney transplant at the age of 13, and later returning to dialysis, my journey has been shaped by challenges, resilience and, above all, the unconditional love of my mother.
My Journey with Kidney Disease
My journey with kidney disease began from the very day I was born, when I was diagnosed with Hemolytic Uremic Syndrome (HUS). At the age of just two and a half years, I underwent my first dialysis. It was peritoneal dialysis, and being a small child, I was on my mother's lap throughout the treatment.
On 13th July 2004, at the age of 13, I underwent a kidney transplant at CMC Vellore. My mother became my kidney donor, giving me the greatest gift of life.
Unfortunately, in 2009, my transplanted kidney was rejected following a chickenpox infection, and I had to return to dialysis, which I continue to this day.
Despite the challenges, I have continued my journey with determination and a positive outlook. Today, I am 35 years old. Looking back, despite the struggles, my life has been filled with courage and the unwavering support of my mother.
By God's grace, my mother has remained healthy and fit to this day. Her strength and selfless love continue to inspire me every day.
