A Story of Hope, Resilience, and Giving Back: Aditya Pathak’s CKD Journey

My name is Aditya Pathak, and I am from Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh. I was just 16 years old when my life took an unexpected turn—I was diagnosed with Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD), specifically MPGN (Membranoproliferative Glomerulonephritis). At an age when most teenagers are focused on studies, sports, and dreams for the future, I was learning medical terms, hospital routines, and the harsh realities of living with a chronic illness.
The Early Years: Treatment, Dialysis, and Struggles
The years following my diagnosis were challenging in every possible way—physically, emotionally, and financially. Continuous treatment became a part of life. As the disease progressed, I had to undergo dialysis in the ICU, a phase that tested not only my strength but also my family’s resilience. Like many families dealing with CKD, we faced financial stress, uncertainty, and fear of the unknown.
Yet, through every setback, my parents stood by me like a rock—never allowing hope to fade, even during the darkest moments.
Two Transplants, Two Lifesaving Gifts
My journey includes two kidney transplants—the first in 2013 and the second in 2018. What makes my story truly special is that both my father and my mother donated a kidney to save my life. Today, I want to say this clearly and confidently:
Both my parents are perfectly healthy.
Organ donation did not weaken them—it gave me a second chance at life. This is why I strongly urge everyone: please do not fear organ donation. It is safe, ethical, and most importantly, it saves lives.
From Patient to Sportsman and Mentor
Before illness entered my life, cricket was my passion. I had the honor of playing Under-16 cricket for Uttar Pradesh, and despite everything CKD put me through, I never let go of my love for the game. Today, I proudly work as a cricket coach, guiding young players and helping them chase their dreams—just as I once did.
Recently, one of the proudest moments of my life was representing India in Germany with Team Organ India. Wearing my country’s name on my jersey after everything I had been through was deeply emotional and symbolic—not just for me, but for every patient who believes life can begin again after illness.
A Message from the Heart
My journey has taught me lessons that go far beyond medicine:
Stay hopeful, even when circumstances seem impossible
Eat in moderation and respect your body
Avoid addictions—they cost more than we realize
Live happily and stress-free as much as possible
Support organ donation, because one decision can give someone an entire lifetime
CKD may have shaped my journey, but it does not define who I am. Today, I am healthy, active, and deeply grateful—for my parents, my doctors, my supporters, and life itself.

If my story can remove even a small fear about organ donation or give hope to one patient or family, then every struggle has been worth it.
